Which reeds do you use or recommend? I just got some java and love them! Anyone ever try the black box called zz or something?

i prefer the vandoren red box reeds for ska and jazz music. it really lets u aggressively tongue without the sax squeaking.

Ive played on both zz and java reeds, mainly 3 1/2 strength. I personally prefer the ZZ's over java but I havent found a reed i like more than Rico La Voz. Theyre cheap and play better, in my opinion, than any other reed i have tried

When I tried ZZ's (over a year ago) I found that they had a great sound, but each one lasted one practice session and a jazz band rehearsal. I have gone through la voz, vandoren traditionals, javas, java reds, and v16s, and my favorites have been v16. They last a long time, and get a great, full sound. (On a meyer 8 with a rovner eddie daniels lig, on a yamaha yts 62)

Thats very interesting i played on the ZZ's for awhile with no problems, it really depensd on your play style as to how long the reeds will last. The v16's for me as with the javas never lasted long. I play very aggressively on a yanagisawa 902 bari with a otto like true tone 7 star moth piece and medium la voz reeds. They last a VERY long time fr my play style. It just depends on your setup and style of playing.
